Ghazni: A passenger plane crashed in Afghanistan, leaving dozens of people aboard. It was a US Air Force aircraft but unmanned.
US officials have confirmed that its aircraft, used by bombers, crashed at the site of the bomber, E-XI, in Ghazni Province. However, the exact cause of the accident is not known and an investigation is underway. According to US officials, no evidence has been found of the plane being targeted by anyone.
It is clear that the plane crashed in an area in Ghazni where the majority of Afghan Taliban rule and rule. US Defense Secretary Mark Asper said he was "aware of the situation" but could not divulge further details. He assured that the information would be communicated to the media once the Pentagon details were revealed.
The Taliban's position
The Afghan Taliban, on the other hand, said there were several people aboard the US aircraft, with no hope of surviving. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said in the statement that there were "some significant American" officials and officers on the plane.
